Did you know that most work organisations provide an allocation of hours for you to partake in some Volunteer work!! If you are lucky enough to fall within this bracket then why not get in touch with us here at MMHA and allocate some time to an array of events that we organise throughout the year. We are critically aware that volunteers are crucial to help maintain life, just like Mental Health awareness services that we promote to the people of Mayo daily. Benefits Volunteers reap the benefits of feeling a personal sense of accomplishment while building social networks that, in turn, support them in times of stress. Volunteer work is also an important part of your resume. A history of volunteering demonstrates your commitment to the community and a willingness to work for the betterment of others. Many businesses have their own volunteer program, or support local programs. Employees who volunteer build a positive reputation for their business in the community’s eyes. Tradition Mayo Mental Health Association is rooted in a tradition of volunteerism. The Association values the volunteer’s role and is committed to its further development within the Association. In keeping with improving standards in volunteering, Mayo Mental Health Association has developed a charter which underpins the role of the volunteers within the Association. This charter recognises the two-way nature of the volunteering relationship. Mayo Mental Health Association is a countywide voluntary Association that aims to ‘promote positive mental health and to actively support persons with a mental health difficulties, their families and careers by identifying their needs and advocating their rights. In Spring 2016 - Nine volunteers from the Castlebar townland raised a considerable figure in aid of "Shave Your Views On Mental Health" - the participants aim was to increase awareness about Mental Health in Mayo and further afield. The strength and impact of Mayo Mental Health Association in the County is largely achieved and reflected through the caliber of volunteers associated with and attracted to work in Mayo MHA. We are constantly reviewing and updating its programme of activities to respond to the county and local needs. We are always interested in matching new volunteers with our own valued programmes of activities that reflects mental health service users’ needs and where relevant members of our own community. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for Mayo Mental Health Association, then please carefully read the below handbook and arrange a meeting with one our representatives at our offices in Castlebar or fill out the Contact Us tab below.
